Culturally important to Egyptians who used it to enhance a spiritual connection to the afterlife and commune with their Sun god Ra as the bringer of light and the embodiment of the "perfection of wisdom". Found in ancient Egyptian tombs and writings it symbolized creation and rebirth as it emerged from the primordial waters to bloom once a year for only three days.
