Nyx, personification and Goddess of Night was born of Chaos, at the dawn of creation. She brings the night to the mortal realm and thus is integral in the mortal perception of time and its cyclical nature. She is mother to Hemera (day) and many other deities including Hypnos (Dreams), Moros (Doom), Thanatos (Death) the Oneiroi (Dreams) and the Moirai (Fates). 

Nyx is depicted with hair and clothes dark as night, often with a cape of starry night. She sometimes is shown riding a chariot of her own across the sky as she brings the cover of night across the earth. She is said to dwell in Tartarus and is associated with the gems Moonstone and Sardonyx.
