Hecate - Goddess of Magic and Witchcraft
Artist Caitlin McCarthy depicts the Goddess Hecate.
Greek Goddess of Night, Witchcraft, Magic, and the Moon, Hecate is a triple-faced Goddess representing the Crossroads and Boundaries. She is often depicted holding aloft twin torches and accompanied by images of the Moon or her familiars the black she-dog and polecat. She is the only child of the Titanes Perses and Asteria and holds power over Earth, Sea and the Heavens.
Hecate has been worshiped since Ancient Greek times, and is still actively worshiped by Pagans today. Often associated with the time around Samhain when the veil between life and the afterlife is thin, as she is the guardian at the boundary of that veil. Said to guide Persephone in her journey to and from the Underworld. She is associated with the gemstones Moonstone and Black Tourmaline and the night blooming flowers of the Datura family.
